Like Writing A Phone Book

If they give you ruled paper, write the other way. –Juan Ramon Jimenez

Bit of friendly advice! If anyone (especially yourself!) ever tries to get you to hand-craft an alphabetical list of anything, just say no! Immediately. In fact, say Hell NO!! Watching grass grow, even watching cricket, or sailboat racing, is a billion times more interesting, and probably more worthwhile, too. And that could well be understatement. (Still better than watching American Idol, but that’s another rant entirely.) Wish someone had warned me, before I started an Authors Index for my infamous literary calendar pages here on Take Heart! Ah well, sanity is just a state of mind, they say, and the damn thing’s done now. A page only insomniacs could love … read it and sleep. Still, it has driven me to clean up and augment the monthly calendar pages themselves, which are all freshly updated now, with nearly 700 embedded videos of music, author interviews, clips from plays and films, and readings of poems and prose. Yi-hah!! Check them out soon, before the copyright wars get any snarkier — I notice already that Youtube links can disappear even faster than money.

About l. l. frederick

I'm pretty ordinary, so I find any number of things in the world interesting, among them: books, music, flowers, food, social justice, politics and (sometimes!) people. As for my writing, I've decided that I can be subtle and tasteful when our only problems are esthetic ones. Or when I'm dead, whichever comes first. In the meantime, read at your own risk.
