Red State Blues

Tell me please, just tell me what the hell we’re gonna do?
There’s a deadly threat upon our land that’s called the red state blues.
It’s not drought, disease or famine, not like hurricane nor quake;
But a plague of greedy assholes, who just take, and take, and take!

They’ve busted the economy, with their gambling and their tricks.
After forcing us to bail them out, they all sneer and say we’re sick.
While they keep collecting bonuses, our needs just have to wait.
Then they tell us we’re the lazy ones, who just want a nanny state.

Yes, the government’s the enemy, and not the heartless rich,
Though they’re the ones whose recklessness put the whole world in the ditch.
For we’re all supposed to worship wealth, and just let greed have full sway,
And ignore the pain and misery this will cause along the way.

If you call selfishness a virtue, and say money’s always right,
You can blame the poor and powerless, for causing their own plight.
And of course you shouldn’t help them, it will only make them weak!
Guess a two-by-six-foot plot of earth is the most they’ll give the meek.

Now the rich have damn near everything, and they don’t pretend to care.
And to add insult to injury, they insist we pay their share!
But it always makes me shake my head, in sorrow and surprise,
That they fool so many people into swallowing such lies!

Well maybe i’m just crazy, but i sure don’t want this shit!
If we don’t stop these selfish bastards, we’ll be stuck with all of it!
When these corporate shills are through with us, we’ll have nothing left to lose.
No jobs. no homes. no future. Just these deadly red state blues.

Who says we mustn’t bite the hand
That feeds us poison and propaganda?
Serfdom still doesn’t sound like fun,
So let’s put all the plutocrats on the run!

About l. l. frederick

I'm pretty ordinary, so I find any number of things in the world interesting, among them: books, music, flowers, food, social justice, politics and (sometimes!) people. As for my writing, I've decided that I can be subtle and tasteful when our only problems are esthetic ones. Or when I'm dead, whichever comes first. In the meantime, read at your own risk.
